Nancy J. Brown Is Back In Town

A big THANK YOU to all who popped into Centro, Beijing to say hello over the last few months
, and thanks to all who said hello at Blujaz and Quarubar, for my brief return to Singapore just before Christmas!

2009 has been absolutely and internationally 'jam'-packed (play on words intentional). It began with singing in the New Year at the beautiful Shangri-la's award-winning restaurant Blu with views of the fireworks and the Singapore skyline and then moved on to take to the stage dancing and singing at Howl At The Moon, and playing with great musicians in Blujaz and Quarubar in the Spring. The Summer was a gig-packed 2 months in the UK including appearing as part of the world-renowned Anthony Gormley's ground-breaking art project (one of the few lucky ones to be picked out of the 35,000+ applicants), singing live 30 feet up on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square simultaneously performing to a London audience in the Square below and broadcasting to a world audience in my first live stream on the internet, a once-in-a-lifetime experience (another big Thanks to all who turned up, tuned in or watched the recording later. I had a blast. The biggest world feedback/clicks on my profile on the One-to-One website!)
During one of the many times in London I found time to fit in a recording at The Premises Studios (frequented by Jamie Cullum, Bloc Party, Marianne Faithfull, Amy Winehouse to name but a few),
laying down fresh and juicy takes of some fabulous tunes with some wonderful musicians with my own and collaborated arrangements ranging from drum and bass to gospel blues, collaborating with Grammy nominated players who appear in famous venues - like the renowned Ronnie Scotts - all over the world with the likes of Shirley Bassey and Vanessa Mae. A truly amazing time was had by all.
        (CD to follow)
Late Summer had me jetting back to Beijing for a rare second residency at the award-wining lounge bar in the Kerry Centre, In the month of 60th Anniversary of the PRC I performed a crazy wonderful set for the British Ball (British Embassy & UNICEF) where the dance floor filled at the band's opening chords and didn't stop until we had played an extra 20 minutes after our time was up, the usually conservative crowd (before drink flows) hollering back refrains to 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You'. My raucous last night in December had the entire Centro audience up dancing, singing and generally having a fabulous time. And finally the end of the year saw me in London quite appropriately coming full-circle via some lovely gigs in Singapore (where the lead singer from Wicked Aura Batucada & my gorgeous self had a battle-of-the-audience 'sing-off', each side competing with each other singing 'Play That Funky Music' and 'Get Up'. James Brown would have been proud).
Luckily I made it back to the UK despite threatened BA Strikes and heavy snow, and I have been able to experience the first White Christmas in England for years!
So here is to 2010. I have made good friends all over the world in the last year - and - decade - and I thank you for being so wonderfully generous with your friendship. A pleasure to be singing for you

Plans are afoot for trips to LA, South East Asia, possibly even Australia and back across to Europe so..

Keep a look out! Keep in touch Keep laughing - or start now!
and Keep an ear open for my new CD in 2010!!

Thank you so much to everyone who came along to support the launch of my Album in London or Leeds. Myself and the band really do appreciate it and thanks to all those who have bought the Album. Sales are going great and anything we do earn from CD's goes towards our next project/tour. ( Although I am backed by a record label I still fund 95% of everything so it really does help.)

As you've all been a great help so far I wondered if you could keep a look out for any one who would like to help sponsor our forthcoming tour. We are currently pitching for shows around the country and then internationally. It would be great to get some northern company's involved (especially Yorkshire ones) big or small. It could be company's such as clothing/makeup/jewelry(which I could wear on gig's, promotional video's and television appearances and brands which we could advertise on all upcoming promotion for the tour. Or if anybody is very 'rich' he he he...... and would like to invest in myself and the band then please let us know. Everything helps!

All those that came to the Coopers gig....the picture I took of you all is now on my website. I have added a new fan page! I would love to include some quotes and messages from our fans. So if you'd like to add a message to the page then email it to me and i'll put it on there.

Thank you again and keep up the support. It really does help! Spread the word.

Jenni Molloy’s Bach Uploaded
to record debut live album

Discount Tickets with Jazz In Yorkshire

Jenni Molloy will be recording an eagerly awaited debut live album with her group Bach Uploaded at the Howard Assembly Room, the beautiful new arts venue at Leeds Grand Theatre on Sunday 22nd March at 8pm.  The trio who have enchanted audiences in Leeds and Bradford with their blend of classical, ambient contemporary jazz-fusion would love to see some familiar faces as they record in front of an audience and are offering £3 off the ticket price to visitors to  the Jazz in Yorkshire website.

Jenni’s innovative and original compositions are a blend of contemporary, classical, ambient jazz-fusion and have been inspired by some of Bach’s rhythmic and melodic ideas. They have been tweaked, squashed and tampered with, lifted from the confines of tradition and slammed into a jazz fuelled environment; all with due respect and admiration for arguably the most prolific composer that ever lived.

Joining Jenni for an evening of cutting edge ensemble playing will be Stuart MacDonald (soprano & tenor saxophones) and Chris Sykes (drums).

Yorkshire based record label Jellymould Jazz will be recording the gig for Bach Uploaded’s debut album in the inspirational new Opera North venue the Howard Assembly Room.  The once derelict cinema has been restored to its former Victorian splendour and its warm ambience and acoustics will be the ideal setting for this inspired musical collaboration.

Visitors to the Jazz In Yorkshire website will receive a 25% discount off the ticket price if they quote ‘Jazz In Yorkshire’ when booking.

This is Bach rewired and revamped, translated and transfused, compressed and Uploaded.

Visiting Yorkshire for a few days is London based bluesman Giles Hedley.

Giles has been singing and playing roots blues across UK and Europe since the sixties, on harmonica - his trademark is  simultaneous nose-and-mouth harmonica playing, see  http://youtube.com/watch?v=qmwVP74mxkc

- and bottleneck and lap steel guitars, acoustic and electric.

A regular on blues festival and club circuits both solo and with The Aviators, featured repeatedly on national radio in England and France, Giles is, in the words of blues magazine Blues in Britain, " a mainstay of British blues" or as Blues Matters puts it, "one of Britain’s foremost roots and country blues performers".
Catch him while you can at The Harrogate Jazz Club on Tuesday 17th Feb
along with Harrogate's own Richie Jevons,
and on Thursday 19th Feb at Coopers Jazz & Blues, Guiseley

Groovin' at The Grove

This glorious summer of ours is drawing to a close.
The new season Jazz opens at the Grove Inn on Sunday 14th September.
I am delighted to welcome back some of the stunning young talent that Leeds has to offer.
Matt and Reuben are now in London to further their studies in music but are coming back to gig with the fabulous Nick Svarc on guitar.  Its been a while since we have seen this extraordinary musician at the Grove. Emlyn and Kris will provide a great rythmn section and I feel sure you will be in for a special night.
The sad news is I cannot be there.  Stuart made a last minute and determined gesture to get us a holiday yesterday, and we are going to Turkey on Monday for a last blast of sunshine.  Only a week , but keeping me away for the grand first night of the club.  My sincerest apologies to everyone, but I trust you will support the club as usual and help the band and
Guy Hatton to fund their night and give them a warm welcome.
 Check out the
website  for the calender of events.  There are some fabulous outfits coming to play and I am thrilled that I am getting so many requests from musicians to keep the club alive.
 Have fun
Carole Eve Bell.

Sweet Chorus are coming to
Coopers  on Thursday November 6th 2008.

Now celebrating it,s 10th year together, John Etheridge's "Sweet Chorus" was originally formed as a personal tribute by John to his mentor and inspiration Stephane Grappelli with whom he worked for 5 years in the 70's and early 80's.

Taking it's cue from the Hot Club of France - the legendary group that featured Grappelli and Django Reinhardt - the band features John's dazzling guitar work and the scintillating violin of Chris Garrick. The relationship of these two has been described as one of the most potent in european jazz and backed up by the propulsive drive of Dave Kelbie and Andy Crowdy the band produces breathtaking sallies through repertoire both old and contemporary. A must for all fans of melodically based inspired swinging acoustic jazz.
